| About Costa Blanca | Situated around Alicante The Costa Blanca is on the east coast of Spain stretching out to the south to the Costa Almeria and to the north to the Costa Dorada, and lies on the Mediterranean.
Beaches Alicante is known for its beautiful promenade, which is lined by palm trees, and an excellent shopping district, and is one of the most important towns on the Costa Blanca. Costa Blanca gets it name from the kilometres of white sands that lie along the coast, which is in places±50m wide and is very inviting to those who like to sun bathe. The sun shines almost every day and the azure colour of the Mediterranean Sea makes it impossible to resist a dip. In many places the beach tapers off into the sea leading to shallow areas that are safe for children to swim in. In the summer month’s lifeguards are on duty at the most popular swimming areas.
Attractions and Excursions. The ancient castle of Santa Barbara, rising high above Alicante, is well worth a visit and the view over Alicante and the harbours is breath taking. Walking to the top will also take your breath away so there is a lift that goes from the end of a tunnel, the entrance to which is just across from the beach. In Elche (Elx) you can visit the Priests Garden, which is a botanic garden, or join an organised trip through the Palm wood, you can also visit the 17nth century Saint Maria Church situated in the old town centre. In Torrevieja you will find an aqua park “Aqualandia” which is open from May until October. (Fun for young and old.) For those who are adventurous there is the possibility to go on a fantastic Jeep Safari. There are, of course many more exciting things to do.
Temperature The average winter temperature is around 16°16/C°F, the Spring and Autumn temperatures of 20°C/68°F are normal and in the Summer you can expect an average of 35°C/95°F.
